You are cordially invited… You are invited to a wedding. You’ve accepted your invite now the hard work begins deciding what to wear! I suppose before you start you need to know how formal or informal the occasion is going to be. The venue could be a clue to this or a quick call to someone in the family who’s in the know is always a great start. Once you have decided on the formality of the event you can start to look for your outfit. There are a number of options for women, we’ve picked out a few of the more popular options for you. LACE Lace is an obvious place to start and a very popular choice especially for summer weddings. It’s ultra feminine, it adds texture to your look and is not too revealing. Pastels are very popular at the minute, team with simple tailoring and neutral accessories. MONOCHROME This hard to beat combination of black and white tones is another firm favourite for weddings and can be worn all year round. Care should be taken though when choosing monochrome for weddings as too much white will appear too bridal and no one wants to detract attention from the bride. You have a choice of accessories with this striking colour combo, you can be traditional and stick to black or neutral or you can mix and match tones for a more modern look. FLORALS Florals are another wonderfully feminine look and are ideal for summer weddings. The trick with florals is to keep it tonal, not too many bold colours, that way you can pick accessories that match perfectly. RUCHING Choosing an outfit with strategic ruching can help you look and feel your best when maybe you’re not entirely happy with your body shape. A wedding is usually a long event so you want to feel comfortable and whilst there are dresses available that ‘hold you in’ for example, how comfortable are you going to be after you’ve eaten a 3 course meal and drank a few champagnes? Disguising the problem is a much more comfortable solution. NAVY BLUE Navy blue is another firm favourite for weddings all year round. It’s not as harsh as black so it suits everyone. Navy can be just as slimming as black and looks great worn with co-ordinating accessories. ACCESSORIES When it comes to accessories if in doubt go neutral. Not only does it match most looks but neutral footwear can actually make your legs look longer. Make sure that if you’re wearing a hat or fascinator it contrasts or matches your outfit perfectly and that it suits your face shape and hairstyle. You’ve made all this effort you want to see your face in the pictures! Once your outfit is ready all that’s left to do is enjoy the day and have some fun. Oh and maybe book a lovely sunny day…..if only you could. *All shoes shown are available from Next and Office. **All hats and bags are available from John Lewis. Posted April 27, 2016
